We’d definitely recommend GOing to Alaska – it was a phenomenal experience!!
We modified our sleeping arrangements so that we could sleep together, but not have to use the super-king bed configuration. You can see what we do in the following post:

That post also has a link in it to a previous post that shows the benches Jim made to support our bed. We purchased two very narrow (and inexpensive) Coleman blow up mattresses that we find very comfortable ?. I’ll also mention that I’m intrigued by the Cloud Layer Sleep System offered by SylvanSport and plan to review its dimensions to see if it could work with our set up.

We are interested to know if you have modified the sleeping pads, and if so how. We find them to be” not very comfortable”.
