Hi John. If you are using a propane style, 2-burner stove, cooking under the awning is no problem at all. There is plenty of headroom & ventilation to cook safely. The only time we would caution cooking under the awning would be if you are using a stove that uses liquid gas as a fuel source. These stove can flare up when lighting and that could potentially be an issue. With a propane stove, there is almost no danger of any type of large flare up.
