[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Jim and Robin are heading to Alaska! The Honda CR-V is packed and their trusty GO, L.E.O. (Low-Earth Orbiter), is ready for adventure. Follow along and get a taste of #myGOlife\u2026Berzowski-style!<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Leaving Dawson City and the Alaskan Highway behind, we were starting our last two weeks of the trip and started heading towards home <\/span>?<\/span><\/p>\n

We pointed south to Jasper.\u00a0 On the way, we saw perfect examples of folded mountains and miles upon miles of vividly yellow canola fields. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26013″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26014″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Approaching Jasper National Park was like greeting an old friend after 2 months apart. Magnificent!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26015″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26016″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]After a lovely evening in the town of Jasper, including the requisite visit to Scoops and Loops for ice cream, we headed south along the Icefields highway, through Jasper and Banff National Parks, enjoying some of our favorite sights of mountains, clouds, glaciers, rivers, lakes, and the Endless Chain Ridge.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26021″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26019″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26018″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26017″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26023″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26022″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]And sheep!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26025″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]During our journey, people we met talked about the beauty of the Alberta provincial parks in Kananaskis Country, just east of Banff National Park, still in the Canadian Rockies, but much less crowded.\u00a0 We arrived during a Canadian holiday weekend, so the better-known parks were full, but a helpful ranger directed us to Cataract Creek Provincial Recreation Area. The last 10 miles were gravel\/dirt roads, but it brought us to a very nice forested campground with vault toilets and potable pump water.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26026″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We enjoyed a fabulous dinner of grilled steak and potatoes.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26027″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26028″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Right behind the campground, were hikes along the creek\/river, through the valley. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26029″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26030″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Very close to the campground was the Raspberry Ridge Lookout Trail.\u00a0 There were so many gorgeous flowers!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26033″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26032″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26035″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26036″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26034″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26031″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We flushed a fledgling spruce grouse, then observed the mother pretending to be invisible in the nearby brush.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26039″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26038″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Near and far, the hike was spectacular all around!.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26040″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26041″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Prior to packing up, we had some scary moments trying to share our hammock!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26043″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26042″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We traveled our last gravel road and prodded some cattle as we left the Kananaskis Country provincial park area.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26044″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26045″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Then, we were on our way back to the USA!\u00a0 We saw the last of the Canadian Rockies as we passed Waterton Lakes National Park.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26046″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26047″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We crossed the border into Montana and observed Chief Mountain from several directions.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26049″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26048″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It was afternoon by the time we arrived at Two Medicine Campground in Glacier National Park.\u00a0 It did not look like there were sites available. While Jim was driving around looking, I was talking with a group of 3 guys who drove up from CA, checking if they would consider sharing their large site with us.\u00a0 Fortunately, Jim nabbed the very last campsite because it turned out these guys were Bears fans, originally from Chicago! Although it does not show up well due to the lighting, there is a beautiful mountain range right behind our (Packers) site.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26051″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26050″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Venturing out on our bikes down to the main part of the lake, we were stopped short by sheep on the road.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26052″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26053″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There was a lovely hike to Aster Falls, with a side trip to Paradise Point.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26055″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26054″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As usual, Jim made us a delicious dinner.\u00a0 We met two wonderful women from Minnesota \u2013 they took the train to Glacier!\u00a0 They were attracted to Jim\u2019s dinnertime music as they passed our campsite <\/span>?<\/span>.\u00a0 They did not have a lot of supplies or equipment with them, so Jim said they could stop by for coffee in the morning \u2013 a well-received\u00a0 invitation! <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26057″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26056″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It actually got dark that night\u2013 we saw the moon (yes, I know it\u2019s blurry) for the first time in months!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26058″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The next day, we decided to hike the north side of Two Medicine Lake to Twin Falls.\u00a0 From the campground, the trail circles Pray Lake, with heavenly vistas.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26059″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On the trail, we encountered this black bear enjoying the huckleberries! I considered retreating, but a little shouting and the bear took off.\u00a0 Other hikers (including our new MN friends) then caught up with us and we continued \u2013 safety in numbers. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26061″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26060″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]After enjoying a snack at Twin Falls, we went to the dock at the west side of the lake to take the boat back.\u00a0 Just as we boarded the boat, a big moose decided to have lunch at the water\u2019s edge!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26063″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26062″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]After yummy quesadillas for dinner, we went to the Ranger talk (including how to properly use bear spray), then stopped to say goodbye to our Bears fan friends!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26065″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26066″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”26064″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
