has confessed to her worst ever gig – and she warned that Hugh Grant doesn’t come off well in this story.

The comedian and actress, 41, has performed stand-up in some rather famous venues, such as the Apollo, and at events like the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.

While we love her, it seems her jokes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, with the main man Hugh looking less than impressed after her appearance at his party.

But hey, at least the mishaps make for entertaining anecdotes!

Speaking with , Sara reflected on her success, saying: ‘It doesn’t matter how well-known you are or how experienced you are, you will sometimes go out there and not do very well.

‘You gamble every time you go out. That fear makes it compulsive.’

She wonders now why she agreed to it (Picture: Karwai Tang/WireImage)

On the famous incident at the Love Actually star’s bday bash, she began: ‘One of my worst ever gigs was when I did stand up at Hugh Grant’s birthday party. He doesn’t come off well in this story.’

For reasons still unbeknownst to Sara, Hugh’s friends apparently like to throw parties for him that he will not enjoy.

They asked her to turn up wearing a ‘no more page three’ t-shirt and to ‘do some feminism at him’ because ‘he’ll hate that.’

She said the rom com icon did not look like he was enjoying her performance, as he watched from a chair in front of her while everyone else mingled and had drinks.

‘I think I was the 14th female comedian they asked – everyone else had said no.’

On why she agree to do the gig then, Sara said nonchalantly: ‘Partly for the story, partly because I was excited by the idea of meeting him, and also because it was £300 cash in an envelope.

Thankfully, Sara’s career has only gone in one direction after the Hugh Grant party (Picture: Nick Pickles/WireImage)

‘Sometimes – I don’t know if you do this – you’re punishing a future self. You say yes to things because you’re like, it won’t be me doing that, it will be another version of me. Then you get to the day and wonder why you agreed.’

But, it hasn’t all been bad through Sara’s career – far from it – as she’s gone on to become one of the most recognisable faces on comedy TV shows.

We know and love her for the likes of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Taskmaster, plus she’s fronted documentaries an written books.

In September 2021, it was announced that , replacing Joe Lycett.
