At least one person has died in an eight tractor-trailer and three passenger vehicle crash on an Arkansas highway.
The pileup on Interstate 30 just outside of Mavern on Wednesday afternoon also injured multiple people, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation. the exact number of people hurt was not immediately disclosed.
Plumes of smoke could be seen billowing up from the accident scene near mile marker 85.5 north of Caddo Valley.
The cause of the accident in Hot Springs County remains under investigation.
Images from the accident showed semi-trucks toppled over each other across the highway, engulfed in flames that reached into the median.
Traffic was backed up on the highway for miles, with eastbound lanes closed. Meanwhile, traffic flow on the westbound lanes was slow. Traffic was detoured to exit 91 as authorities tried to clear the area, reported.
