A Wisconsin couple had to kill a bear after it charged through a window into their home and attacked them.
The husband and wife were both injured, while their children remained asleep and unharmed at the time of the attack, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office said.
After spotting the bear eating out of a bird feeder in their yard, the couple opened a window to yell at the animal to leave.
‘The bear immediately turned and charged at the house, breaking through the window and into the house and immediately attacked,’ the sheriff’s office said.
Both the husband and wife sustained several bites and other injuries while trying to stave off the bear. At one point, they stabbed the animal with a kitchen knife.
While the struggle continued, the husband managed to grab a firearm, which he shot and the bear with. As the scuffle ensued, the couple’s children remained asleep in their beds.
The couple were treated for bites and several other injuries at an area hospital and have since been released, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said the bear was an adult female, who had one cub that was seen running off as the bear charged into the home. Wildlife officials in Wisconsin took the bear in for testing.
Officials have not shared what kind of bear it was.
According to the , bears are typically afraid of humans and are rarely ever aggressive.
