A mother dressed in an Easter Bunny suit allegedly handed out plastic eggs containing condoms to children at an elementary school – in an apparent mix-up with a batch intended for a safe sex clinic.
The unidentified parent is reportedly a pharmacist who went straight from participating in the safe sex clinic to Gullett Elementary School in Austin, Texas, in the bunny costume.
Parent Nathan Jensen said: ‘A parent showed up at my kids’ elementary school dressed as an Easter Bunny during pickup.
‘(They) handed out eggs, mostly filled with candy, some with unopened condoms.’
A day later, Jensen shared that the incident may have been an accident. Jensen tweeted that the mother went to the school still in the bunny suit to pick up her student in the second grade and decided to also give out candy.
She was ‘mobbed by kids’ while handing out eggs filled with candy and quickly ran out, according to Jensen. She apparently asked her husband to deliver more eggs, but he accidentally brought the batch that was not intended for kids.
‘Her husband brought the wrong eggs’ and ‘chaos ensued,’ Jensen wrote.
The mother’s giveaway was not approved or organized by school officials, according to . The Austin Independent School District said she was asked to leave the campus, but kept handing out eggs from a public sidewalk.
‘We are working to review our safety protocols to ensure this does not happen again,’ a district spokesperson said.
‘It was an incredibly careless and inappropriate action of a parent.’
The Austin ISD Police Department has launched an investigation and is deciding whether to pursue charges against the mother, according to .
Such an incident represents ‘some unprecedented territory’, according to the district.
Young students are not taught anything around ‘human sexuality and responsibility’, the school district stated.
