After watching the horrifying events of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol unfold, wrote a letter to the girlfriend of a police officer who died after responding to the violent riot last year.

Prince William offered his sympathy in a personal letter to Sandra Garza, the longtime partner of Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick, 42, who suffered two strokes and died the day after he responded to the riots.

‘Please forgive me if I am intruding but I wanted to write and let you know how sorry I am about the death of your partner, Brian,’ the prince wrote to Garza, who shared highlights of the heartfelt letter in an interview with .

In the letter of condolences, the Duke of Cambridge praised Sicknick’s ‘patriotism and selflessness’ during the ‘harrowing events that took place at the Capitol.’

Garza said she was amazed to have received such a heartwarming personal note of support from the prince.

‘I was very honored and humbled and in awe that Prince William, from England, decided to take time out of his day, his busy schedule, to write me a letter to honor Brian’s memory and to acknowledge my pain,’ she said.

The late officer’s partner noted that she never received any similar offerings of condolence from former President Donald Trump.

‘Former President Trump does not give two craps about law enforcement or Brian and yet Prince William took the time to reach out to me, to honor Brian’s memory,’ Garza said.

Garza said the letter was dated in November of last year, but that she only received it several weeks ago. In the letter, the prince explained that he felt inspired to reach out to her after watching a documentary that included footage from the riot on January 6, 2021.

‘By all accounts Brian performed valiantly whilst on duty and despite suffering injuries continued to do his utmost to protect those inside,’ the prince wrote.

‘I was terribly saddened to hear that he passed away the following day and hope that you can take some comfort from knowing that it is thanks to law enforcement officers like Brian that the situation did not escalate further and democracy was upheld.’

The letter comes as the House committee investigating the January 6 attack holds public hearings. As the hearings progress, the committee has sought to showcase the pressure then-President Donald Trump put on Vice President Mike Pence to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election.
