US politicians and public figures clashed in their reactions to the , with some believing the decision will ‘live in infamy’ while others celebrated saving children from the ‘ravages of abortion’.

The court on Friday morning ruled 6-3 in favor of the state of Mississippi in the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, allowing the state to ban most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. That effectively struck down the court’s landmark 1973 Roe ruling that provided a constitutional right to abortion.

Shortly after the decision, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that ‘today’s Supreme Court opinion will live in infamy as a step backward for women’s rights and human rights’.

‘Most Americans believe the decision to have a child is one of the most sacred decisions there is, and that such decisions should remain between patients and their doctors,’ the 2016 Democratic nominee for president wrote.

Meanwhile, Texas’ Republican Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the high court allowing states ‘to protect the lives of all unborn babies in America’. He added that ‘Texas is a pro-life state, and we have taken significant action to protect the sanctity of life’.

‘Texas will always fight for the innocent unborn, and I will continue working with the Texas legislature and all Texans to save every child from the ravages of abortion and help our expectant mothers in need,’ Abbott.

Speaking on Capitol Hill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the ruling a ‘slap in the face to women’.

‘The radical Supreme Court is eviscerating Americans’ rights and endangering their health and safety,’ stated the California Democrat. ‘Today the Republican-controlled Supreme Court has achieved their dark, extreme goal of ripping away a woman’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions.’

Pelosi called out major figures in the GOP, including the former president and the Senate minority leader.

‘Because of Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, the Republican Party and their supermajority on the Supreme Court, American women today have less freedom than their mothers,’ Pelosi said.

She that ‘the rights of women and all Americans are on the ballot this November’.

Republican Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene rejoiced, calling it ‘a miracle’.

‘I’m so thrilled. I’ve cried about this, I’ve prayed. Everybody out here is celebrating that the Supreme Court had the courage, they had the bravery, overturning Roe versus Wade,’ said Greene.

‘Giving it back to the states and hopefully this can be the beginning to the end of abortion. I think we know that God is real, and I think we know that prayer works, and I’m just so overjoyed.’

On the other end of the political spectrum, progressive Democratic Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined the decision outside the Supreme Court. Pro-life demonstrators forced her to leave shortly after.

‘Every single one of us has woken up today with less rights than we had yesterday,’ Ocasio-Cortez said on the House floor.

Former President Donald Trump, who appointed three conservative justices during his time in office, praised the ruling and initially said, ‘God made the decision’. But he later took credit.

‘Today’s decision, which is the biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation, along with other decisions that have been announced recently, were only made possible because I delivered everything as promised,’ stated Trump, ‘Including nominating and getting three highly respected and strong Constitutionalists confirmed to the United States Supreme Court.’

His successor, President Joe Biden, called the decision ‘a tragic error’ and a ‘sad day for the court and for the country’. He , calling him out by name.

‘It was three justices named by one president, Donald Trump, who were the core of today’s decision to upend the scales of justice and eliminate a fundamental right for women in this country,’ Biden said.

Besides politicians, on the decision that changes the course on abortion in the country from the past 50 years.
