Arsenal are closing in on an agreement with Bukayo Saka over a deal to stay at the club after prioritising talks with the winger over the likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli.
Saka’s current deal runs until 2024 and the club are keen to reward him with significantly improved terms given his rapid development at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta recently said he was ‘very confident’ that Saka would stay at the club, while Saka himself says he wants to stay.
Nevertheless, an agreement has not yet been reached but the say the club are in ‘advanced’ talks with the midfielder over a new deal.
The Gunners have a number of key players coming to the end of their deals, including Martinelli and Saliba.
Given there’s 18 months to run on Saliba’s deal, many fans want the club to speed up talks with the Frenchman.
But the Gunners have opted to prioritise talks with Saka first and they hope to reach an agreement with his representatives before moving on to Saliba and Martinelli.
It’s a risky strategy but the club hope tying Saka down will encourage others to do the same.
Arsenal have made their best start ever to a Premier League season, winning nine of their first ten matches.
