Former Flying Eagles coach Godwin Uwa says the country’s current U-20 men’s team handler, Ladan Bosso, has nothing to offer.

Bosso was reinstated as the Flying Eagles Coach despite failing to qualify the team for the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

The Flying Eagles finished last in Group B (alongside Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire) in WAFU-UFOA Zone B qualifiers for the 2021 U-20 AFCON.

Bosso is currently with the team in Niger Republic, for the qualifiers to the 2023 U-20 AFCON and will face Ghana and Burkina Faso in Group B.

And ahead of the qualifiers Uwa, who led the Flying Eagles to a second place finish at the 2007 U-20 AFCON in Congo Brazzaville, posited that he has his reservations about the team’s head coach Bosso.

He, however, stated that he hopes the team does well in the qualifiers.

“I wish the team all the best in the competition but as far as I’m concern Ladan Bosso has nothing to offer,” he said on Brila FM’s Breakfast Show on Wednesday.

“I know him very well but like I said I hope the team does well.”

After qualifying the Flying Eagles to the Canada U-20 World Cup in 2007 after finishing second at the African qualifiers in Congo Brazzaville, Uwa was replaced by Bosso.

At the World Cup, Bosso led the Flying Eagles to a quarter-final finish.

The team had players like Brown Ideye, Elderson Echiejile, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Efe Ambrose.

Meanwhile, as part of preparations for this year’s regional qualifiers, the Flying Eagles took on Niger Republic in two test matches.

The first test game last Friday ended goalless while the second tie played on Monday saw the Flying Eagles triumph 1-0.

They will open their campaign at the tournament on Sunday, 8th May against Ghana before facing Burkina Faso three days later.
