Chelsea will look to record their first win in this season’s Champions League when Serie A giants AC Milan travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues lost 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in what turned out to be Thomas Tuchel’s final game in charge of the team, before drawing 1-1 with Red Bull Salzburg in Potter’s first match as manager.

Chelsea goalkeeper Mendy has recovered from his injury problem but both Havertz and Jorginho felt ‘some discomfort’ following the team’s 2-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Potter, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon, also said N’Golo Kante is making good progress in his rehabilitation, although he remains unavailable for selection and will not feature against AC Milan.

The former Brighton boss said: ‘Edou has been training with the team the last few days so he will be in the squad which is good news for us because we need as much competition for places as possible.

‘Jorgi felt some discomfort against Crystal Palace but has trained today. We’ll see how he reacts to that. Kai had a slight feeling after Palace as well but was able to train today.

‘NG [Kante] is training more and more. He’s not training fully still but he’s getting closer. So that’s really positive.’

Mendy established himself as Chelsea’s number one during Tuchel’s tenure but Potter says he is in ‘no rush’ to pick between the Senegal star and big-money signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

‘If you look at what we’ve got over the next six weeks, it’s an incredible schedule so I’m in no rush to name a number one or number two,’ Potter said.

‘I want to get Eddie fit and ready to play and then we have two goalkeepers and in an ideal world, you let football decide.’

Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan currently top Champions League Group E, having taken four points from their first two games. They are fifth in Serie A, three points behind leaders Napoli.

On Chelsea’s next Champions League opponents, Potter added: ‘We are playing against a different team, a different way of playing. A top team, just like Salzburg, every game is different.

‘We have to be really, really good to get the result we want. We try for three points, it’s important to win your home games but we are playing against a top opponent. We have to create a top atmosphere for our fans.’
