Harry Maguire is likely to be out of contention at for two weeks due to the injury he picked up while playing for England against Germany on Monday night.
The centre-back suffered a thigh problem during the 3-3 draw at Wembley and was clearly struggling with it after the match having played the last few minutes through injury.
report that this will keep him out of action for the Red Devils for the next two weeks, which is likely to see him miss at least three matches.
United take on on Sunday in the Premier League, before travelling to Omonia Nicosia in the and then to Everton on 9 October.
Erik ten Hag’s side then host Omonia on 13 October and Maguire will hope to be available for that contest, as he is likely to have a better chance of featuring in the Europa League than the Premier League.
The 29-year-old has quickly found himself out of the first team this season under the new United boss, with Ten Hag preferring the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at centre-back.
England manager Gareth Southgate has kept faith with the former Leicester man, starting him in both Nations League matches over the international break, but with the new injury Maguire’s hopes of playing regularly for United before the World Cup are in an even worse state.
Southgate has come in for criticism for continuing to play Maguire despite his lack of minutes for the Red Devils and struggles with form, but the Three Lions boss explained why he has stuck by the centre-back and hopes he can get back into the fold at Old Trafford.
‘Why do we pick him? Because he’s one of the players who gives us the best chance of winning,’ Southgate said after the draw with Germany.
‘So really we should all be wanting a Harry Maguire that’s playing regularly and playing with confidence.
‘That applies to quite a few players but he’s the one everything lands on, which must be a tough space for him.’
