has described the criticism directed at during Liverpool’s campaign as ‘crazy’.
Liverpool sealed an £85 million deal to sign Nunez from Benfica earlier this summer.
The Uruguay international has been widely mocked on social media for his performances during Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies against and Crystal Palace.
But Klopp insists it ‘makes absolutely no sense’ to judge Nunez after just a few weeks with his new Liverpool teammates.
‘He didn’t gel in the group so quickly – the group is the best group I’ve ever seen to help new players to settle,’ Klopp told .
‘It was always clear in a situation like this that a striker with his skillset will need time because it’s different to what we had before. Definitely we play different to Benfica, so it means both sides needed to adapt.
‘He didn’t score in the first two games in, I don’t exactly, 50-odd minutes or whatever, and we face discussions. That’s a crazy world out there to say [that].
‘So then he scores four goals in a game and we discuss it completely the other way.
‘We need time to get used to each other. That’s absolutely fine. How can we expect after a week, or for the first game it was three days, that we or he would be at his absolute best? It makes absolutely no sense. This kind of game I don’t understand.
‘He’s a really nice guy, he loves being here, our Spanish community, players, help him a lot. He’s learning English already, he’s really trying hard to understand at least the basics as quick as possible. It’s all going in the right direction.’
