boss Erik ten Hag has been handed a big boost ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Etihad with set to return from injury, according to reports.
The Red Devils have had a number of niggles and issues up front, with Christian Eriksen forced to play as a false nine at the start of the season and Anthony Martial twice picking up a knock.
Rashford was the latest casualty, with a muscle injury seeing him miss United’s clash against FC Sheriff as well as the latest international break – where he likely would have been handed an England recall had he been fit.
Ten Hag was wary of putting a timestamp on when the forward might return to action, but it appears he has shaken off the problem in time to take on on Sunday.
According to , Rashford is winning his fitness battle ahead of the weekend and ‘feels ready’ to play in the showdown at the Etihad.
He has already begun training again with the United players who were not involved in the recent international break, with the rest of the squad returning to Carrington on Wednesday and Thursday.
It would be a massive boost for Ten Hag to have Rashford back and available, with the 24-year-old having started the season in solid form.
He has already netted three goals and laid on two assists in the Premier League in just six outings – a key contribution every 104 minutes – and his pace and direct running is seen as a massive weapon against City.
Ten Hag will be hoping Martial is also fit for the trip to the Etihad, though Harry Maguire appears to be a doubt after picking up an injury playing for England against Germany.
Three Lions skipper Harry Kane revealed the centre-back had been forced to play the final stages of the 3-3 draw practically on one leg, and Maguire could face some time on the sidelines – though he had already lost his place in Ten Hag’s starting XI.
‘H [Maguire] had a pretty decent injury there at the end,’ revealed the Tottenham striker.
‘He played another five, 10 minutes, on almost one leg. Great character from him, I’m really proud of him for that.’
