will target Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone should they fail to land Adrien Rabiot this summer.

after the club failed to sign the international last summer.

but renewed efforts are underway to bring the 28-year-old to Old Trafford with his contract and Turin set to expire at the end of the season.

Juventus have not given up hope of renewing Rabiot’s contract however with reporting the Frenchman has not made any decision on his future as of yet.

Should Rabiot decide to stay in Italy, the report claims United will switch attention to Kone. The 21-year-old is enjoying his second full season at Monchengladbach and has been capped seven times for his country.

Paris Saint-Germain are also keen to sign Kone this summer.

United have made signing a new striker a top priority this summer with Harry Kane their preferred target to fill the void up front.

United are wary of entering a lengthy transfer saga with Tottenham however with Spurs said to be adamant they will not sell for less than £100million.

United also want to bring in a new midfielder with Rabiot representing a cut-price option should the club’s spending power be limited this summer.

Speaking in December, Rabiot admitted that he was keen to move to England and test himself in the Premier League.

‘I have always said that I’d like to play in England in my career. I still have that desire,’ Rabiot told The Athletic.

I’d like to evolve in the Premier League. It’s the league, it’s the level of play that’s going on, that’s what attracts me most. It corresponds to my qualities.’
