Norwegian teenager Andreas Schjelderup has agreed a move from Danish side Nordsjælland to Benfica, rejecting interest from Liverpool for the second time in his young career.
The 18-year-old winger has attracted a lot of attention from big clubs around Europe, having the chance to move to a much more recognisable name than Nordsjælland in 2020 when he signed from Bodo/Glimt.
However, he moved to the Danish club as he felt it was the best place to be for his development and now he is making a similar decision.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the Portuguese side will pay a €14m (£12.4m) fee for the teenager, with Nordsjælland securing 20 per cent of any future sale and the winger signing a deal until 2028.
Liverpool were actively pursuing Schjelderup and had held talks, but he feels that Benfica is the best place for him to continue his development.
When he signed for Nordsjælland in 2020 he explained: ‘I visited Ajax four times, PSV four times, Tottenham, Liverpool, Juventus, Fulham, Atalanta and Bayern Munich.
‘They [Nordsjaelland] are a club that has shown that they give young players a chance and spend enormous resources on player development.’
Schjelderup is enjoying a superb season so far in Denmark, scoring 10 goals in 17 Superliga appearances as Nordsjælland sit top of the table.
He is yet to make his debut for the senior Norway team but has played throughout the age group sides up to Under-21 level.
