When quizzed if £60m was too much money for Chelsea to spend on Gordon, Ferdinand said on : ‘Is he worth that? Probably not right now.
‘Could he eventually be worth £60m? Potentially, he has the chance to do that. This kid is the crown jewels at Everton at the moment.
‘They don’t want to see him go because of what that will do for the morale of the football club and the fans in the stadium.
‘It’s difficult but if he wants to go, he’s got to go in and show the balls to go to the manager and the chairman and say ‘I want to leave’ and see how they deal with that.’
Former defender Nedum Onuoha, meanwhile, has questioned Chelsea’s move for Gordon and feels the move does not make sense.
‘At the moment, I couldn’t put him into this Chelsea team and see where he fits,’ he told .
‘Playing for Chelsea, where the expectation is to win every game, and if you don’t win two in a row it’s a mini crisis, I feel you need a strong mentality to deal with that pressure. I’m not sure Anthony Gordon at this moment in time is.
‘He doesn’t fit in with this current style of play. [Callum Hudson-Odoi] is like another version of Anthony Gordon, and he can’t get into the team.’
