Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has promised to lead the Blues’ revenge on Liverpool ahead of their FA Cup final meeting. The two English heavyweights are scheduled to face off in the final of the competition this season.
The meeting will be a repeat of the Carabao Cup final back in February when the two sides squared off at Wembley Stadium.
At the time, the Reds emerged victors after post-match penalties, in a thrilling clash that saw all outfield players score their spot-kicks.
The tie had to be decided via the shootouts after both teams settled for a barren draw during regulation time.
Chelsea’s journey to the FA Cup final
Chelsea booked a place in the FA Cup final after seeing off a spirited Crystal Palace side in an epic semi-final meeting staged at Wembley on Sunday, April 17.
The world champions sunk Patrick Vieira’s men 2-0, with substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount scoring a goal each in the second half of the clash. The west Londoners had to overcome Chesterfield, Plymouth Argyle, Luton Town and Middlesbrough to set up a meeting with rivals Crystal Palace.
Liverpool, meanwhile, edged English champions, Man City, in the other semi-final to book their place in the final of the tournament for the first time in a decade.
Tuchel promises revenge on Liverpool
Speaking after Chelsea’s qualification for the FA Cup final, Tuchel vowed to ensure his side will avenge their Carabao Cup heartbreak in the hands of Liverpool.
“Yeah, of course, of course [we’re looking for revenge],” Tuchel admitted during an interview with TalkSport.
“We will not get the Carabao Cup final back but we are again in Wembley, again in an FA Cup final in two consecutive years which is great,” he added.
