will change its name to TNT Sport this summer ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season.

The move comes after BT Sport was bought by Warner Bros Discovery, the global mass media conglomerate, which also owns Eurosport.

Over time, the two channels will merge together under the TNT Sports banner, but for now it is just BT Sport who are undergoing the rebranding.

But why exactly are BT Sport changing their name and, crucially, what does this mean for existing subscribers?

What is TNT Sports?

TNT Sports are a subsidiary of Warner Bros Discovery.

The company, who show domestic and European football throughout South America, will now have a dedicated brand in the UK starting from July 2023.

Andrew Georgiou, managing director of WBD Sports Europe, said: ‘The TNT Sports name is already synonymous with premium live sports in a number of countries around the world and a further sign of the global scale and expertise that WBD brings to the partnership with BT.’

Why is BT Sport changing its name to TNT Sports?

The move is designed to streamline the TNT Sports brand and to transform BT Sport into a premium offering for customers.

Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer Division, said: ‘We’ve announced that we’re making another important move in our plans with Warner Bros Discovery to bring together the best of BT Sport and Eurosport under one roof.

‘TNT Sports is the new name that will replace BT Sport, from July 2023. This marks the next logical step for BT Sport as well as the broader transformation of BT’s Consumer business. Once launched, it’ll become a hugely exciting new premium sports offering for customers.

‘I’m really proud of our teams, who have been working at pace to create a more efficient platform that’ll see this new sports brand in the UK and Ireland brought to life for the first time before the start of the 2023/24 football season.’

How much will TNT Sport cost?

Any potential price changes have not yet been revealed to existing subscribers of BT Sport.

For now, BT’s name will simply change to TNT Sport with no new channel numbers to get used to.

Live streams will now be available on discovery+ instead of the BT Sport app.

Once the merger with Eurosport has been completed, a whole host of the biggest sporting action will be shown under the same roof, including the Premier League, Champions League, Olympics, MotoGP and boxing.
