Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch believes the potential arrival of Erling Haaland to Man City may make them a team to beat in next season’s Premier League.

Recall that it was reported that the Norwagien international was said to have undergone a medical.

However, Marsch worked with the Borussia Dortmund star at RB Salzburg and is aware of talk of the player now undergoing a Manchester City medical.

He said, “Erling Haaland is destined to be one of the best players in the world.

“It’s his quality but also his talent. I wish he was coming home to Leeds, his birthplace. I understand the decision to go to Manchester City.

“He can play any style of play but certainly I think it makes Manchester City, one of if the best teams in the world – if not the best, even better.”

Haaland’s Early Life

Haaland became the first teenager to score in five consecutive UEFA Champions League matches during the 2019–20 season. In December 2019, he completed a transfer to Borussia Dortmund for a fee reported to be in the region of €20 million. Haaland also won the 2020 Golden Boy award.

In 2020–21, he was integral in Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal win, won the Bundesliga Player of the Season award and finished as the top scorer of the Champions League. His performances saw him being named in the 2021 FIFA FIFPro World11.

Haaland represented Norway at various youth levels. In the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Haaland won the tournament’s Golden Boot, after scoring a record nine goals in a single match. He made his senior international debut in September 2019.

Haaland is the son of the Norwegian former Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Manchester City defender Alfie Haaland, and former women’s heptathlon athlete Gry Marita Braut. His cousin Jonatan Braut Brunes plays as a forward for Lillestrøm.
